What to expect during your Initial Visit!

We commend you for taking the initiative in making your first psychiatry
appointment, and pushing through for your initial visit because we understand this
is not easy to complete. We believe that knowing what to expect in advance before
your initial visit could be one of the ways to make this event less stressful.

Expect to spend at least 60 minutes during your initial visit to Adom
Telepsychiatry and Mental Health Services. During this initial visit, your provider
will obtain information regarding but not limited to: your psychiatric history,
medical history, social history, cultural history, and occupational history. We also
recommend that you bring a complete list of your medications. If you have seen a
psychiatrist in the past, then we advise that you send a copy of your records for
review.

During your initial evaluation, expect to be asked the reason for your initial visit
that can be in different ways such as “how can I help you, so tell me what brings
you in today, how are you doing?” and more. We understand that these open-ended
questions might make you uncomfortable when you do not know where to begin,
but rest assured, there is no wrong or correct way in answering. You will be guided
by your provider to obtain relevant information for the best possible care. We want

you also to understand that it is okay to experience different emotions while talking
about your concerns.

Depending on your individual needs, the team will develop an individualized,
patient-centered treatment plan that will yield the possibly highest quality of life
toward the end of your initial evaluation. Your treatment plan may include baseline
labs, EKG, or other treatment procedures to initiate medication, and to rule out
other possible medical conditions that may impact your symptoms. It may also
include referrals for psychotherapy or referral for a more intensive treatment.
